The 2023 Annual Lecture was delivered by the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd at the House of Lords. The topic of the lecture was "The Practicalities of Legislating for Wales (and other nations) at Westminster - UKIM, REUL, Levelling-Up, Strikes and other matters."

As part of Wales Week in London we participated in a seminar on Thursday 8th March 2018 on the topic "The Codification of Welsh Law: Aims and Progress".  Guest speakers at this event were The Right Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court, Nicholas Paines QC, Law Commissioner, and Jeremy Miles AM, Counsel General for Wales. The ALWL Annual Dinner 2017 was held in The Great Hall of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn with special guest speaker Lord David Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court, and entertainment provided by Côr y Boro.

The 2017 Annual Lecture was delivered by The Hon. Mr Justice Lewis, Presiding Judge, Wales on Tuesday 25 April in Committee Room 4A in the House of Lords. The topic was: “Is There Too Much Judicial Review? The Boundaries of Judicial Scrutiny”. You can read a transcript of the lecture here.  

 

Annual Dinner for 2016 was held in The Holborn Bars on 28 January 2016, with entertainmenet provided by the excellent Côr Llunsain and the speaker for the evening was Robert Buckland QC MP.

The 2015 Annual Lecture was delivered by The First Minister for Wales, the Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, on Thursday 26th March 2015 in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords, with a reception afterwards in The Attlee Room. The topic of the lecture was "What Next for Welsh Devolution?" and you can read a transcript of it here.

 

Our 2015 Pub Quiz was held in the bar at the London Welsh Centre on 30th April 2015. It was fantastic evening and all proceeds went to the Lord Edmund Davies Legal Education Trust

Annual Dinner, 13 November 2014 - the 2014 Annual Dinner was held in The Great Hall of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. The evening’s entertainment was a performance of several Welsh favourites by the London Welsh Chorale, and the speaker for the evening was Lord Alex Carlile of Berriew QC CBE.

 

Summer reception and LEDLET launch, 22 July 2014 - the Lord Edmund Davies Legal Education Trust was launched at the Supreme Court on 22 July 2014. A host of high profile guests attended, the students from Wales were given a warm welcome, and the TV cameras were there to witness the festivities.

 

Annual Lecture, 20 March 2014 - the 2014 Annual Lecture was delivered by Lord Justice Lloyd-Jones in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords. The topic of Lord Lloyd-Jones' lecture was “Law reform in a devolved Wales”.  You can read a transcript of this lecture on our resources page.

 

Annual Dinner, 24th October 2013 - the 2013 Annual Dinner was held in The Great Hall of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. The evening’s entertainment was a performance of several Welsh favourites by tenor Huw Rhys-Evans from Tregaron, and the speaker for the evening was the former Attorney General, Lord Morris of Aberavon KG QC.

 

Annual General Meeting, 18th September 2013 – the 2013 Annual General Meeting was held at the offices of Goodman Derrick LLP, and was attended by (amongst others) Lord Alex Carlile of Berriew QC CBE.

 

Annual Lecture, 25th June 2013 – the 2013 Annual Lecture was delivered by The Rt Hon Lord Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, at The Bingham Room, of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. The topic of Lord Judge’s lecture was: “The Welsh Language: Some Reflections on History”. You can read a transcript of this lecture on our resources page.

 

Autumn Debate, November 2012 – the debate was held at Portcullis House and the topic under discussion was “The Welsh Language and the Law”. Panelists for the debate were The Right Honourable Elfyn Llwyd MP, Welsh Language Commissioner Meri Hughes and Morgan Cole Senior Partner Emyr Lewis. The evening was chaired by Hefin Rees QC.

 

Annual General Meeting, 5th July 2012 – the 2012 Annual General Meeting and Summer Reception was held at BMA House, Tavistock Square.

 

Speakers’ Meeting, 23rd May 2012 – A Speakers’ Meeting was held in committee room 3 of the House of Lords, to discuss the Welsh Government’s consultation on a separate legal jurisdiction for Wales. The speakers included: The Rt. Hon. Elfyn Llwyd MP, The Rt. Hon. Lord Morris of Aberavon KG QC, and Winston Roddick, CB, QC.  The meeting was chaired by Hefin Rees QC.

 

Annual Lecture, 22nd March 2012 – the 2012 Annual Lecture was delivered by The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Pill and chaired by The Rt. Hon. Lord Morris of Aberavon, KG, QC in committee room 4A of the House of Lords. The topic of Lord Justice Pill’s lecture was: “2012: The Welsh Legal Landscape”. Annual Dinner, 20th October 2011 – the 2011 Annual Dinner was held in The Great Hall of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, in the presence of The Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Lord Judge. The evening’s entertainment was a performance of several Welsh favourites by the London Welsh Chorale and the evening’s speaker was Bleddyn Phillips, Head of Oil & Gas at Clifford Chance.

 

Annual General Meeting, 9th June 2011 – the 2011 Annual General Meeting and Reception was held at The Bingham Room, of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn.

 

Inaugural Meeting, 14th February 2011 – the Association’s inaugural meeting was held at the House of Lords. The topic of discussion was: "Wales, an emerging legal jurisdiction: Why it matters to lawyers in London".  The following spoke at the Association’s Inaugural Meeting: The Rt Hon Lord Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England & Wales, The Rt Hon Lord Morris of Aberavon KG QC, HHJ Milwyn Jarman QC, Keith Bush (National Assembly for Wales), and Hefin Rees QC.
